The capital of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship is located on the Brda River. The city is surrounded by forests and it's full of greenery. A characteristic feature of the urban landscape of Bydgoszcz is a picturesque labyrinth of water canals reminiscent of Amsterdam or Venice. The riverside location has always been a great potential of this place and resulted in the creation of the famous Bydgoszcz Canal. The city also has rich musical traditions cultivated by the Pomeranian Philharmonic and Opera Nova.
Bydgoszcz was once a well-known center of inland sailing and cereal trade. The period of the city's came during the Prussian partition. King Frederick II ordered the construction of the canal, which connected the Vistula and Odra basin, eventually becoming the most unique monument of the city and a fragment of the waterway connecting Berlin with Kaliningrad.
Among many attractions of Bydgoszcz one can mention the historic granaries, the sculpture “Crossing the River”, suspended over the Brda River and stylish city-center tenements. Also the Młyńska Island with the Bydgoszcz Venice, the Musical District and the 15th century parish church are worth visiting. You can also admire the city from the vantage point on the Water Tower and relax in the Forest Park of Culture and Recreation.
