The artificial channel of 24.7 km long between the Odra and Vistula River basins today is part of the international waterway E70, which is a recreational and tourist attraction.
There is a 9.2 km section within Bydgoszcz. Swimming allows two stops - Star, in the western part of Bydgoszcz in the Miedzyń estate and Bydgoszcz, on the Mill Island. The channel is available for ships up to 400 tons. There are 6 locks on the route allowing you to overcome the difference between the beginning and the end of the route.
In the vicinity of the navigable section there is also a dead end called the Old Bydgoszcz Canal, which is a remnant of the reconstruction. There are three historic locks equipped with mechanisms from the time of 1872. The 2.5 km long section is located between the sluices IV and VI and is considered a historical monument. The canal was built in the years 1773-1774 on the initiative of King Friedrich II Hohenzollern, contributing to the intensive development and economic development of the city.
