St. Vincent de Paul Basilica

Local name: Bazylika św. Wincentego á Paulo

The neo-Classical temple with its architectural style refers to the Roman Pantheon. Architecturally unique is its dome decorated with 32 rose windows with motifs of Polish flowers.

In the interior, the altar with a monumental group of Crucifixion and its complementary mosaics, eight chapels on the perimeter of the rotunda, and an extraordinary mosaic "Creation of the World" which is an abstract representation of the biblical scene, deserve attention. Eye-catching element of the church are also Doors of Blessings that are made of bronze and decorated with 16 reliefs.

A stunning temple owes its origins to the Congregation of the Mission of Saint Vincent de Paul which had funded the building plot intended for church construction. In 1924 work on the construction began, project was prepared by the architect Adam Ballenstaedt from Poznań. The unfinished construction was completed in 1938. After the wartime turmoil, when the buildings were managed by the Germans who have burned them after the liberation, debris has been removed, and in the 1970s reconstruction has been carried out, enriching the temple with a choir and decorative architectural elements. On October 7, 1997, Pope John Paul II granted the temple the dignity of the Minor Basilica.
