Ulica Szeroka in Toruń belongs to the most important representative route in the Old Town Complex. It leads from the Old Town Square to the Old Town and stretches for 240 meters as the main street of the historical center of Toruń. In 2007, it was hailed by the “Wprost” weekly magazine as one of the most exclusive Polish streets.
In the Middle Ages, the street was called the Great and was inhabited by wealthy craftsmen and the richest families of the Torun patricians. In modern times, there were houses of noble families: Działyńskich, Niemojewskich, Kostków, whose architectural tastes contributed to the ennoblement of the main street of Toruń. Today, 19th-century architecture dominates the promenade: here we can see tenement houses built in Art Nouveau, modernist and eclectic styles. Some of the buildings, however, retained the former Gothic, Baroque or Renaissance character. A walk along Szeroka Street is an unforgettable feast for the eyes.Less
