A beautiful street in the Śródmieście district of Bydgoszcz where a row of magnificent, architecturally splendid tenement houses was built. Most of them are in the register of monuments. Annually, the Association of the Inhabitants of Cieszkowski Street organizes integration-cultural festivals there. These events promote and let people learn about the history of the street and the person of August Cieszkowski.
The tenement houses there are examples of classical and avant-garde style. The buildings are topped with decorative tented roofs and tops, there are artistic details such as acanthuses, rose windows, herms, geometric and plant ornaments as well. Tenement houses were designed by well-known Bydgoszcz architects (including Józef Święcicki, Karl Bergner, and Fritz Weidner) at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in the style of Belle Epoque. After 1990, most of the tenement houses has been renovated and decorative elements have been restored on their facades.Less
