Cosmopolis Fountain

Local name: Fontanna Cosmopolis

Launched in 2008 on the square near Toruń’s Harmonijka, the fountain is one of the greatest attractions of Toruń. The fountain presents fantastic water performances during the day, and in the evening, around 19.00-21.00, depending on the month, turns into a real 180-minute spectacle of lights and sound.

The unusual construction is reduced to an invisible surface of water, covered with granite slabs, on which the Copernican pattern of the heliocentric system was engraved and the text in Latin. The orbits of the planet are equipped with 113 water jets ejecting streams to a height of 4.5-5 m. The whole refers thematically to the work of Copernicus "The Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres".

The biggest event connected with the inauguration of the fountain was composition of the song Cosmopolis by Polish composer Krzesimir Dębski, which was the setting in the first days of the screenings. Currently, during the performances are also presented songs from the films Love Story and Gladiator, as well as Ode to Joy.
