The figure of a man dressed in an old-fashioned outfit, holding a cyrograf in hand, emerges twice daily from the attic window of the tenement house on the eastern frontage of the Old Market, giving a deep bow to the passersby and greeting their demonic laughter.
Mr. Twardowski appears in the window above the bookshop at 13.13 and 21.13, thus confirming his magical origins. Today the symbol of Bydgoszcz, according to legend, was to stay in this very building in 1560, doing the magical miracle of rejuvenating an elderly spouse at the request of a young mistress.
The sculptor of the figure is Częstochowa artist sculptor Jerzy Kędziora, known for specific, balancing installation.
