This outstanding technical monument, and at the same time a historic symbol of the city of Bydgoszcz, can be visited at the Brda quay, in the neighbourhood of historic granaries. The barge attracts attention with its unique interior recreated to resemble the original deck from 80 years ago. Concerts, performances, and other cultural events take place there. Once a month there is a meeting of the skipper families on Lemara.
The history of this amazing facility dates back to 1937, when it was launched in the Bydgoszcz shipyard and began regular courses on the Brda River, as one of many transport ships pulled by strong river tugs. The barge had belonged to Adolf Schmidt, who had been living on the barge with his family and had been working there until the World War II, when the unit was taken over by Germans, and then by communists, employing former owners as workers.Barge ended being active in 2006 with the assumption of its use for scrap, however the decision was changed and after renovation, the historic facility serves cultural purposes. The fact that barge "Lemara" was named after first names of the owner - Leon and Maria Schmidt can be considered interesting.Less
