Most important in terms of history, elegant shopping site of Bydgoszcz. Stylish, decorative tenement houses, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries, had been built here. These buildings have been rebuilt many times, they represent styles such as neo-Classicism, Italian and North European neo-Renaissance, and eclecticism. Many of them are monuments.
On the street there is, among others, Museum of Soap and History of Dirt. The 17th-century building of the number 22 was a place of visit of King Jan III Sobieski in 1676, and a place of birth of painter Maksymilian Piotrowski (1813-1875). Between the Jan Kazimierz and Stefan Batory streets, there is the Bydgoszcz Avenue of Autographs of meritorious people for Bydgoszcz.At the end of the 20th century, the street has gained a commercial and entertainment character. In 1997, the surface of Długa Street from Woolen Market to Jan Kazimierz Street was modernized and transformed into a pedestrian zone.
