Graduation towers

Local name: Tężnie solankowe

The unique wooden constructions are used for water evaporation in the local brine sources what makes it a great place for inhalations rich in iodine, just like at the seaside.

Forming a horseshoe, the three constructions are 15,8m tall and their total length is 1741,5m. Brine water collected from Ciechocin's source no.11 is pumped to special channels on the top of the construction from which it very slowly, drop by drop, flows down the walls and evaporates because of wind and the Sun. The source is commonly known as Grzybek Fountain.

The graduation towers were designed by the professor of the University of Mining in Kielce - Jakub Graff. The three monumental buildings were built between 1824 and 1859. The spruce-pine complex is supported by 7000 oak piles stuck in the ground. Its surface is covered with frequently replaced blackthorn twigs.

The arrangement of graduation towers is not without significance. A horseshoe configuration allows an exceptionally high concentration of brine aerosol what enhances the effectiveness of inhalation.
