Dybów Castle and Nieszawa Castle are located on the left bank of Toruń. The fortress was built in the years 1424-1428 by order of King Władysław Jagiełło. Currently - next to the Teutonic castle - it is the second preserved medieval stronghold in Toruń.
The castle was built as a customs station on the way to Toruń, then occupied by the Teutonic Knights. In 1431 it was conquered and destroyed by the Teutonic Knights, who then rebuilt it and manned it with their own crew. In the following years, the fortress returned to Poland and served as the seat of Polish royal starosts.
As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that in 1456, King Kazimierz Jagiellończyk issued the statutes of Nieszawa in 1456, i.e. privileges for nobility from various Polish lands.
