Opole is often called the Capital of Polish Song. There is a reason why the Polish Song Festival has been held here for over half a century. The city is full of greenery, and its main attractions include Bolko Island and Opole Venice located in the oxbow lake.
The city developed from the castle in the early Middle Ages and was a prince's seat. Today, few monuments from this period remain. The most famous of them is the cylindrical Piast Tower, which can be visited with a guide. Its summit offers a nice view of the city, its intimate market square and the nearby Amphitheater.
The amphitheater is the best known Opole object. It is here that the festival has been held in June for over 50 years, which launched such stars as Maryla Rodowicz, Ewa Demarczyk and Katarzyna Sobczyk. In 2016, a modern multimedia Museum of Polish Song was opened in Opole.
Bolko Island is the most frequently visited part of the city by residents and tourists. These are the green lungs of the city, covered with a picturesque grove, full of alleys and walking places. The 400-year-old Piast Oak is growing here, and the attraction of the island is the Zoological Garden in Opole.
The so-called Opole Venice is a very charming part of the city. It is located above the Odra oxbow lake, where several dozen mills operated in the past. Today, in historic houses, as well as on the water, there are numerous cafes and restaurants, and the district comes alive in the evenings.
