Sanctuary of St. Jack
Local name: Sanktuarium św. Jacka
Sanctuary of St. Jacek is located in a palace in Kamień Śląski. A palace chapel was erected for it, built in the place of the chamber, in which Saint Jacek Odrowąż was to be born in the 12th century. The chapel is a small room decorated with classicistic polychrome, with an altar with the gilded figure of Saint Jacek. The palace also has a Center for Culture and Science of the Faculty of Theology of the Opole University and a Retreat and Ecumenical Center. There are also beds here.
In the 12th century in Kamień Śląski there was a gothic castle belonging to the Odrowąż family. Its best known representative is the first Polish Dominican, Saint Jacek. At the beginning of the 17th century, the castle was in the hands of the von Larisch family. They decided to rebuild it into a baroque residence. In the place where the chamber was located, where according to the application Saint Jacek was to be built, they built a chapel. It quickly became an important place of worship.
The palace and chapel underwent a complete renovation at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Sculptural decorations, facades and rooms of the building were renovated. Guest rooms are stylized as Baroque and Classicist. Painting decorations in the chapel were also renewed.
