Sanctuary of St. Anne
Local name: Sanktuarium św. Anny
Sanctuary of St. Anne's Mount is the most important pilgrimage site in the Opole region. In this basilica is worshiped Gothic figurine depicting Our Lady. The Sanctuary is a Gothic building rebuilt in the 17th century in Baroque style. There are Calvary chapels around the monastery.
The beginning of the shrine dates back to the 15th century. The first church carried the call of Saint George. That was also the name of the place. In the 17th century, a statue of Saint Anna Samot, holding Mary and Jesus, was transferred to the church from Ujazd. Then the temple call and the name of the village were changed. With the growing pilgrimage movement that brought the relics of St. Anne to the church, the Franciscans arrived. The church and the convent have a Baroque appearance. The interior was decorated with polychrome.
Around the monastery, the Franciscans built Calvary. Today, there are almost 30 chapels on the paths of the Passion of the Lord and Our Lady. In the surroundings of the church you can also see the grave of Silesian insurgents.
