Amphitheatre and monument on St. Anne Mountain

Local name: Amfiteatr i pomnik na Górze Świętej Anny

The amphitheater and the Monument to the Uprising in Saint Anne's Mountain are located in the former quarry. They are the main place for celebrating the anniversaries of the Silesian Uprisings. The monument is a stone portal made by Xawery Dunikowski. It depicted subsequent stages of the fight for Silesia's freedom. At its back there is a stone amphitheater.

In the interwar period, when Mount Saint Anna belonged to Germany, a decision was made to commemorate German soldiers who died in the battle for this place during the Silesian Uprising. A mausoleum hidden partly underground was built, where 50 German soldiers were buried. An amphitheater for 7,000 people was built at its back. The mausoleum was destroyed after World War II by the army and the local Polish population as a symbol of German domination.

In 1955 a new Amphitheater was opened and a Polish monument by Xawery Dunikowski was unveiled. It has the form of 4 pylons connected with a height of 11 meters. Under the monument there is a room in which celebrations were to take place. On the walls of the monument there are sculptures depicting the history of fighting for Polishness in Silesia.
