Castle in Głogówek is a baroque residence of the Oppersdorff family. It is built on a slope above the valley of the Osobłogi River. It consists of a lower and upper castle and is integrated into the system of city walls. The ruined building is currently being renovated.
The castle in Głogówek was already in the eleventh century. Numerous wars, invasions and fires have left nothing of the oldest walls. The present appearance owes to the reconstruction of the mid-16th century. The castle lifted from the fall of Hans Oppersdorff. Renaissance buildings rebuilt in the baroque style the next owners.
A mansion built of defensive features consisting of a top and a lower castle. Both parts have three wings around the vast courtyards. The wings of the upper castle close the polygonal towers with baroque helmets.
Since the Second World War the castle fell into ruin. Due to the terrible technical condition the buildings left the Museum in Głogówek. A renovation is underway in 2017. It is planned for a minimum of two years. It is to restore the splendor of this magnificent mansion and make its interiors lively again.
