Tower of the Upper Castle

Local name: Wieża Zamku Górnego

Tower of the Upper Castle is the only remnant of one of the Opole castles. It was demolished in the 17th century, and the tower was incorporated into the buildings of the Jesuit monastery. Today it is the building of the School of Mechanical Engineering. The brick building on the rectangular plan is crowned with crenelas, which now houses classrooms.

History of the Upper Castle in Opole is hidden in the darkness of history. It is not known exactly when and for what purpose it was built. Certainly in the seventeenth century he was already in ruins and was given to the Jesuits. They demolished the ruined walls, leaving only a Gothic, rectangular tower. In the nineteenth century it was raised and added to its Neo-Gothic cult. Since the interwar period, it has been incorporated into a school building, former high school and now a secondary school. The tower is best visible from Wladyslaw Opolczyk Street, which was built on a back-up urban moat.
