Ignacy Daszyński Square is one of the main squares of Opole. A court and school are located in its vicinity. Its focal point is the fountain dedicated to the goddess of fertility Ceres, erected in the early 20th century. It is surrounded by flower beds and a tree-lined square.
The square was marked out in 1918, but its current appearance was shaped about a hundred years later. In the early twentieth century, representative buildings stood in its vicinity. A square with discounts and benches was also created. A fountain was also built, which stood in the place of the former well.
The fountain depicts the goddess of fertility Ceres. She stands on a pedestal, and at her feet there are figures of a miner, fishermen and a woman carrying sheaves of grain. It is a symbol of the traditional activities of the inhabitants of the Opole region: fishing, limestone mining and agriculture. During the renovation of the fountain in 2009, an old German inscription was unveiled: "Civic loyalty with diligence accompanied by a rejuvenating source of a good German soul."
