Opole Venice

Local name: Opolska Wenecja

Opole Venice is a fragment of the Młynówka from the Cathedral Bridge to the Castle. There were mills on the bank, and later on, tenement houses. Today, renovated and highlighted in the evenings, they appear to be in the famous water town.

The mill is actually the old riverbed of the Odra River. During the flood in 1600 the river changed its course. At the turn of the 20th and 21st century it was secured with two locks in case of another flood. The name of the branch was taken from the water-powered mills on its banks. In time, granaries, tenement houses, and even a synagogue, which was later transformed into a printing house and printing company, also began to rise here.

In 2007 the area on Mlynnka was revitalized. Townhouses received a beautiful evening illumination. It brought out their architectural details and made it one of the most popular places in Opole.
