Piast Tower

Local name: Wieża Piastowska

The Piast Tower is a symbol of Opole. It stands on Pasieka Island and is a remnant of a non-existent Piast Castle. The rounded topped building is a great viewpoint for the city. The interior is guided

The tower was built around 1300 years. It was a so-called stołp or tower of ultimate defense in case of invasion. For those times it was a very modern building. For centuries its corps remained unchanged. Only the final was changed. Today it is a grimy helmet. With it, the tower is 42 meters high. Due to land subsidence, it is deviated from the vertical by about 1.5 degrees.

The Piast Tower is open to the public. At 35 meters there is a viewing terrace. Inside the tower is a multimedia presentation about the past of Opole.
