Plac Wolności is located in the center of Opole. There is a small park, where stands the Statue of Fighters for Freedom of Opole Silesia. An important element of the Square is a fountain in the shape of a dancing butterfly built in the 1950s.
The area of Freedom Square was included in the area of urban development only in the nineteenth century. There were the buildings of the regency. The then-built building was completely destroyed during World War II. In its place a park was planted. In 1970 a monumental monument called Opole Nike was unveiled here. It is dedicated to all those fighting for the Polishness of Opole Silesia.
In the park you can relax on one of the many benches, and in the summer find cool by the original fountain. It was designed by Florian Jesionowski in the fifties. Its abstract shapes covered in colorful mosaic symbolize a butterfly floating in the dance.
