St. Adalbert's Well

Local name: Studnia św. Wojciecha

St. Adalbert's Well is located in the place where, according to the legend, Prague Bishop Wojciech baptized pagans in 984. Water from the well supposedly has healing powers, and also protects against gossips and slander. Once a year, during the Day of Saint Adalbert, visitors can drink it and use its miraculous properties. Some claims say that the water changes then into white wine.

According to the legend, the well was created when Saint Adalbert baptized Opolans. When his jug ran out of water he hit the ground with his crosier and the spring appeared.

Sculptures topping the well were carved in 2006 thanks to the efforts of the University of Opole. They were made by artists from Opole and depict Saint Adalbert and five other people important to the history of the city.
