The monastery complex in Henryków is one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in Lower Silesia. The oldest and most valuable monument of the abbey is the 13th-century church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint. John the Baptist - today the smaller basilica. Inside, there are Baroque stalls decorated with 36 carvings depicting scenes from the life of Christ, a magnificent main altar and the oldest organs in Silesia from the 17th century.
The interior of the temple hides many wonderful historical furnishings. Around the monastery there is a baroque park with an abbey stronghold, preserved in its original form. The abbey is known for creating the Book of Henryków, a literary monument written in Latin after 1260 and containing sentences in Old Polish.
The beginnings of the abbey date back to 1222, and the monastery building was built at the end of the 17th century. Today, after many extensions, it is a huge edifice with 300 rooms. In 1810, by decree of the Prussian king Frederick, after 582 years of existence, the Henryków Abbey was liquidated. In 1946, it partly returned to the Cistercians, where they remain in office to this day.
