The capital of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship is one of the most interesting cities in this part of Poland. It can boast of both valuable monuments and interesting natural objects located in the city and available within a short walk from the city center.
Kielce is located in a region with a very interesting geological structure. There are many caves here, as well as rock outcrops. Since 2003, all geological attractions in Kielce are called the Geopark. It consists of an underground tourist route in the Kadzielnia Geological Reserve, the Ślichowice and Wietrznia nature reserves, and the Geoeducation Center with exhibitions on local rocks, caves and fossils found in them.
Kielce also has many valuable monuments. At the top of the list there is the Baroque Palace of Cracow Bishops, which hosts exhibitions of the National Museum. You can also visit the nearby cathedral. Its origins date back to the 12th century. The Romanesque trunk with Gothic reconstructions was given Baroque décor in subsequent centuries.
Kielce have one of the largest Museum of Toys in Poland, where one can see what children have been playing with in the past. Among dolls, teddy bears, toy soldiers, mechanical toys, theaters, houses or train sets, many adults recall with fondness their own childhood.
Kielce is also a place associated with Stefan Żeromski. The story of his life and, above all, his youth, can be found in the Museum of School Years of Stefan Żeromski. After visiting the city, you can relax in one of the many cafes on the Sienkiewicza street, which has been turned into a pedestrian zone.
