The palace is the most recognizable and at the same time the most valuable monument of Kielce. It is one of the best-preserved early Baroque residences in Poland. Currently, it houses the National Museum.
The palace was built in 1637-41 under the direction of the Italian architect Tomaso Poncino. It is a building consisting of the main body and two wings. The main entrance with an arcaded loggia is flanked by polygonal towers topped with Baroque cupolas. At the back of the building is the Italian garden reconstructed in 2003.
The original interiors from the 17th and 18th centuries have been preserved in the Palace of the Krakow Bishops. You can admire beamed, polychrome ceilings and frame ceilings with paintings created in the workshop of Tomasz Dolabella. The former representative rooms of the episcopal residence are open to the public.
The historic interior houses the exhibition of the National Museum in Kielce. It consists of a collection of Polish paintings, handicrafts and numismatic items. The premises in the south-west corner are occupied by the Józef Piłsudski Sanctuary with souvenirs of the head and Legions, which in the summer of 1914 entered Kielce.
