The Memorial Wall stands in front of the building of the former Kielce's synagogue, where the City Archives is now located, since 1966. The wall honors Polish people who, during the war, had been hiding Jews despite the deadly risks. As a reward for their efforts, after the war, they got the highest Israeli decoration.
The Memorial Wall was unveiled during the 50th anniversary of the Kielce Pogrom. It is a stone, semicircular wall with 70m in length and almost 15m in height. Its main inscription states 'Righteous Among the Nations', while the plaques contain the dedication and words of Haim Hefer: 'I hear this title and try to think about those people who protected me. I ask and ask - Dear God, could I do the same if I were them?'. The brick wall consists over 80 plaques with the surnames of the inhabitants of Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship who had been rescuing Jews during World War II.Less
