Świętokrzyski National Park
Local name: Świętokrzyski Park Narodowy
Łysogóry, the highest part of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains and parts of other mountain ranges in their area are protected by the Świętokrzyski National Park. It is one of the oldest national nark in Poland. It is also considered to be the most visited by tourists. Its main attractions are the “gołoborza” (rubble-block sheets and stone runs covering the sides of a hill), the fir forest overgrowing the mountains and the monastery on Łysa Góra, where also operates the Museum of the Świętokrzyski National Park .
The park was created in 1950, but the traditions of nature protection in Łysogóry date back to the interwar period. Already then, there were nature reserves on Łysa Góra, Łysica and on Chełmowa Mountain. The park, apart from Łysogóry, also includes the Klonowski Range, the Wilkowska and Dębniańska Valleys, Chełmowa Mountain as well as Serwis Forest and Zapusty Escarpment. Many walking routes have been led through this area, which allow you to get to know its most beautiful corners.Particularly attractive is Łysa Góra with the “gołoborze”, the former Benedictine monastery and the Natural History Museum of the Świętokrzyski National Park. At interactive exhibitions, you can learn about the geological structure and flora and fauna of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. Within the park there is also the highest peak of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, Łysica. At the top of the hill you can see the picturesque “gołoborze”.Less
