The Zbigniew Rubinowski inanimate nature reserve Wietrznia is a part of the Archaeo-Geological Świętokrzyski Trail. It consists of the three connected multistorey quarries that originated from lime and dolomite rocks: Wietrznia, Międzygórz and Międzygórz Wschodni. The diverse geological phenomenon can be watched there e.g. karst, mineralization, tectonic phenomenon and animal fossils. The reserve has the green walking trail and didactic path equipped with information boards. Another attraction is Geopark Kielce, the educational park with geological exhibitions. Panorama of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains can be seen from the viewpoints.
Opened in 1999, the geological and soil reserve Wietrznia covers almost 18ha but classifies as a partial type of reserve. The quarries that are under protection date back to the years between 1893 and 1974. The length of the excavation amounts to over 800m. The reserve also consists of many valuable plant species and the pond.Zbigniew Rubinowski was the chairman of the Commision of Inanimate Nature Protection of State Council of Nature Protection, alpinist, mountaineer, geologist and speleologist.Less
