The capital and largest city of Denmark lies on the islands of Zealand and Amager. The unusual location, magnificent buildings with numerous palaces and historic churches and one of the most beautiful amusement parks in Europe, Tivoli, attract hundreds of thousands of tourists here every year.

Copenhagen was founded in the 12th century, and about a hundred years later it received city rights. It quickly became an important port and trade center, as well as the most important city of Denmark. As the royal family moved here, more castles, palaces and richly decorated churches appeared in the city.

Royal Copenhagen is above all the late baroque Christiansborg Palace which was once the seat of the royal family. Representative rooms with rich decorations and antique furniture are available for tourists. In turn, in the former residence, the Renaissance Rosenborg Castle today houses a museum dedicated to the monarchy. You can see in it royal coronation insignia.

The image of the royal capital is complemented by the current seat of monarchs, the baroque Amalienborg Palace with beautiful gardens, and Roskilde Cathedral, in which previous rulers of Denmark and their families are buried.

The symbol of Copenhagen is the Mermaid statue, which emphasizes the city's relationship with the sea. Today, one of the most popular and bustling districts is the modern Nyhavn harbor with its quays on the artificial channel, where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes.

Copenhagen is also a city of entertainment. The most famous of them are the Tivoli Gardens, which are an old-style lunapark with dozens of attractions for children and adults, as well as numerous dining options. You can also choose a visit to the zoo, which belongs to the most modern in Europe or the largest aquarium in Northern Europe, Den Blaa.
