Church of Our Saviour
Local name: Vor Frelsers Kirke
The baroque church was built in the second half of the 17th century. Thanks to It is the tallest working churches in Copenhagen. Attention is drawn to the 90-meter-high spiral tower, from the top of which you can admire a panoramic view of the entire city. The church houses the largest carillon in northern Europe.
While visiting the temple, the main altar by Nicodemus Tessin is especially worth seeing. It is decorated with carvings depicting a scene from the Olive Garden, during which praying Jesus is comforted by angels. The presbytery is separated from the nave by a balustrade with statues of 6 archangels. There is also an 18th-century pulpit in the church, decorated with gilding and reliefs, as well as a carved baptismal font from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries.
As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that the church appeared in the novel "Return to the Interior of the Earth" by Jules Verne. Its heroes had to climb the tower to overcome the fear of heights before going to the center of the Earth.
