The Royal Theatre
Local name: Det Kongelige Teater
The national theater was founded in 1748 as the Royal Theater. After several decades, it was transformed into a public institution, and it was moved to the present building in 1874. It consists of three main rooms - the Opera, the Theater and the Old Hall, intended mainly for ballet performances.
The Old Scene is located in the main building. It can seat 1,400 spectators. A special lodge for the monarch was also built there. In 2005 and 2008, the Theater and Opera buildings were added to the theater, housing a café and a panoramic restaurant. The entire complex can be visited with a guide. It gives you the opportunity to see historic boxes and old wardrobes, you can also enter the stage.
Next to the theater there is a museum devoted to the history of Danish theater from the 18th century to the present day. The collection includes costumes, set elements, paintings, drawings and photographs.
