The museum is dedicated to contemporary art. It is located in a modern, purpose-built edifice, which resembles a sailing ship. It stands on a small, artificial island to which three bridges lead. Around the building, a sculpture park was built and over 20,000 plants were planted.
The permanent collection has 400 exhibits and includes Danish, Nordic and international art, mainly from the 1990s. You can see paintings, sculptures and graphics as well as examples of architecture, design and multimedia shows. Among others, works by Damien Hirst, Anselm Reyle, Ai Weiwei, Bill Viola and Olafur Eliasson.
The museum regularly hosts themed temporary exhibitions, conferences and meetings with artists. There are also workshops and educational activities for children and adults.
