Kołobrzeg is a city in Western Pomerania, located by the Parsęta River. It is a very famous Polish health and seaside resort. The history of the city dates back to the 9th century. Unfortunately, only few historical monuments remained from the Second World War damages. Main Kołobrzeg attractions are three large, sandy beaches, pier and a lighthouse.
Kołobrzeg is a city with a long history. Trading settlement existed here already around 880. During the Congress of Gniezno in 1000, one of the three bishoprics was established here. The city has two medieval monuments, the Gothic Cathedral in Kołobrzeg and the Fuse Tower. Other interesting monuments include neo-Gothic town hall and several tenement houses from the beginning of the 20th century.
From the end of the 19th century, the town developed as a seaside and health resort. Spas and health centers in Kołobrzeg use mud, brine and mineral waters. The local mineral water is known by the name “Perła Bałtyku” (Pearl of the Baltic Sea). There are 25 sanatoriums of various kinds operating in the city.
Due to its healthy climate and its tourist attractions, Kołobrzeg brings thousands of visitors every year. They can find half a kilometer long sandy, wide and well-equipped beaches here. Kołobrzeg has the longest concrete pier in Poland and a brick lighthouse, which terrace offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Picturesquepromenade is a great spot for an evening walk.
