Ruins of the church in Trzęsacz are the remains of the gothic church of St. Nicholas, that was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th century. Initially it was built around 1,8- 2 kilometers from the sea shore. It was situated in the middle of a village. Only the southern wall of the temple – measuring 12 meters long and 6 meters high - remained until today.
The church was slowly being destroyed as a result of abrasion process, which means the cliff was washed by sea waves. It's worth noticing, that church ruins in Trzesacz are the only such attraction of this kind in Europe. Retreating of the cliff, which was dangerous to the temple, was noticed in the previous ages. First, futile effort to protect the church from this phenomenon took place in 18th century. The wall of stones was built to protect the building. Later a wall from a shaft of blocks was erected on the shallows along the shore, again with no result. In 1994 a large part of the southern wall collapsed. The authorities of Rewal's municipality took another attempt to save the remains of the church. A protective band was laid at the base of the cliff and the foundations for ruins were made. In the end, its foundation was strengthened using two vertical columns. The whole cliff was protected with a mesh.Less
