Bindaż Zakochanych

Local name: Bindaż Zakochanych

“Bindaż” is a row planted with hornbeams. Trees grow in two rows at a short distance from each other and thanks to that their crowns connect with each other. A small avenue was created from the combination of large hornbeams, which forms a vault on a metal structure. Hard wood of hornbeam is difficult to form, but the effect is permanent and amazes. Kolobrzeg row is one hundred and thirty meters long.

The history of hornbeam tunnel dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century. Today, it is a unique formation on a European scale. It is also one of the more eagerly visited attractions of Kołobrzeg, although in the middle of the twentieth century it fell into oblivion and it has only recently been restored to its former splendour. It's worth to see it after dark when the illumination makes it look really impressive.
