In Kołobrzeg spa park im. Stefan Żeromski stands a monument commemorating the events of the last war. The sculpture commemorates the ceremony of marrying Poland with the sea.
The monument was created in 1963, and its author is Wiktor Tolkien, the creator of many monuments commemorating the tragedy of the nation caused by the course of World War II. The statue maker was a modernist.
The raised part of the monument is supposed to bring to mind the banner that took part in the wedding. Next to it stands a group of figures in uniforms and under arms. Mosaics and reliefs refer to the tradition of Polish soldiers. The arch at the base of the monument, supported by a rock block, imitates a window into the sea. The plates placed at the foot of the memorial form the formation taking part in the city acquisition operation.
The city legend of this tourist attraction says that passing underneath the vaulted ceiling of the monument, while holding the breath, guarantees the fulfillment of dreams.
