Called "Little Amsterdam" Utrecht is one of the most important Dutch cities and today is associated primarily with students. There is the largest university in the country here, and the city is dominated by youth. On the other hand, the picturesque atmosphere is provided by numerous picturesque canals shaded by trees and rows of tenement houses stretching along them.

Until Amsterdam was built, Utrecht was the most important Dutch city. He built his position on the one hand on trade, on the other, on strong connections with the church, which dates back to the eighth century. To this day, several Romanesque and Gothic temples have survived within the Old Town, of which the cathedral is the most important. Martin. This is a unique building consisting of a presbytery with a transept and a tower from which you can admire the view of the city. The nave between them was destroyed in the 17th century by a violent gale.

However, none of the city's medieval or Renaissance buildings are on the UNESCO World Heritage List, but a modernist villa built in 1924 by the De Stijl group under the direction of Gerrit Rietveld. At the Rietveld House, not only the body, but also the interior has been preserved, and the entire constructivist building is an architectural masterpiece.

Like many Dutch cities, Utrecht also has its own channels. They are mostly below street level, and along them there are pleasant pedestrian streets with benches, where you can relax during a walk.
