Museum Het Rembrandthuis
Local name: Museum Het Rembrandthuis
The museum presents the biography, works and souvenirs of the famous Dutch painter, Rembrandt von Rijn. The facility is located in the house, where in the years 1639-1658 the artist lived and worked.
Among the museum's collections you can find mainly paintings by Rembrandt or a rich collection of drawings and engravings, as well as a collection of paintings by another Dutch painter and graphic artist, Jozef Israels, painting mainly scenes from the life of the community and the poor.
The building itself was built in 1606. In 1627 it underwent a thorough reconstruction, while in the years 1658-1917 it was inhabited by several different families. In 1907, the city bought a declining property, restored it and in 1911 opened a museum in it.
