Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum Amsterdam
Local name: Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum Amsterdam
It is the oldest museum in the world entirely dedicated to hemp. Located in the city center, in the Red Light District. The collection includes nearly 12,000 exhibits related to the cultivation, consumption and the cultural, political and healing importance of cannabis over the centuries. In 2012, the branch of the museum was founded in Barcelona.
The museum was opened as the Hash Info Museum in 1985 by Ben Dronkers, an entrepreneur and philanthropist and his friend Ed Rosenthalem. The next day after the opening, the Ministry of Justice forced them to close the exhibition. Dronkers easily disputed this decision, and a week later the museum was reopened.
Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum is also the Hemp Gallery, which is located a few hundred meters away. It is devoted to aspects of the processing and use of hemp in the clothing, cosmetics and food industries. The admission ticket allows visiting both exhibitions.
