Hermitage Amsterdam
Local name: Hermitage Amsterdam
The museum facility mainly presents broadly understood art exhibitions - painting, sculpture, as well as items related to the history of the Netherlands-Russia relationship.
The exhibitions presented at the museum include a collection of seventeenth-century portraits of Rembrandt von Rijn, known worldwide for its unusual size and subject matter of the collection. Portraits present "brothers and sisters", i.e. people from various social strata, religions and practicing various professions.
An interesting exhibition is also the one that is the only one in the Netherlands presenting works by artists from the underground, i.e. talented amateurs.
The facility was opened in 1682 as a House for Elderly Women, but the museum itself was not officially opened until 2009 as a branch of the Museum in St. Petersburg.
