Skinny Bridge
Local name: Magere Brug
Magere Brug, or Chudy Most, is a drawbridge over the Amstel River. It connects the banks near Kerkstraat between the Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht canals. Until 1994, the bridge was opened manually. In 1971 he appeared in the movie about James Bond "Diamonds are forever."
The first bridge was built here in 1691. Because it was very narrow, the locals called it Lean Bridge. In 1871, due to poor technical condition, it was decided to demolish and rebuild it. The current bridge dates from 1934.
A story is known that connects the bridge to the story of two sisters who lived on opposite sides of the river and built a bridge to see each other every day. It was very narrow because the sisters were not rich enough to bet bigger. In another version of the story, the name of the bridge does not come from the width of the bridge, but from the names of the sisters, which was supposed to be Magere.
