Museum Van Loon
Local name: Museum Van Loon
The Van Loon Museum in Amsterdam is a historic building that was erected along with the neighboring twin house in the 17th century. You can see a collection of illusionist paintings by Jacob de Wit (so-called witjes) and visit the "Painted Room" with walls covered with fabric decorated with paintings of the Italian landscape.
The architect Adriaan Dortsman was responsible for the project. The building's facade is decorated with sculptures of Roman gods: Mars, Vulcan, Ceres and Minerva. In the interior you can admire the gallery of portraits of the Van Loon family.
Pictures depicting members of the Van Loon family were painted in the period from the 17th to the 20th century. Antique furniture and sculptures have been displayed in the part of the house open to tourists. There is also a large collection of famous faience from Delft (so-called delphins), i.e. hand-painted decorations with a characteristic blue pattern.
