Local name: Grachtengordel van Amsterdam
In the fifteenth century, a decision was made to build a ring of channels, which in addition to communication functions were also to serve as a city defense. Their construction lasted until the 17th century. The most interesting canals are: the Imperial Canal, Prince's Canal, Lords' Canal and Sigel Canal.
