Central Museum
Local name: Centraal Museum
The Centraal Museum is the oldest city museum existing since 1830 in the Netherlands. The collection has over 50 thousand exhibits, including paintings, drawings, collections of letters, furniture, clothing, old and contemporary applied art and other artifacts related to the city of Utrecht. One of the most valuable exhibits are paintings, including a series of five works by Vincent van Gogh.
Other priceless works of painting owned by the Centraal Museum are primarily cycles of works by Dutch caravaggionists - Gerard van Honthorst, Hendrick ter Brugghen, Joachim Wtewael and Paulus Moreelse. The museum also has 16 paintings by Jan van Scorel, precursor of the Italian Renaissance in the Netherlands.
The showcase of the museum is the nearly 18 m long and almost 4 m wide hull of the ship, which was made of one oak trunk. The unit found in 1930 was probably built between 997 and 1027.
