Nemo Science Museum

Local name: Nemo Science Museum

The largest science center in the Netherlands founded in 1923 on the initiative of the painter Herman Heijenbrock. The name of the museum has changed many times since (Labor Museum, newMetropolis, Science Center Nemo), until in 2016 the name NEMO Science Museum was adopted, where "nemo" comes from Latin and means "nobody".

Since 1997, the museum is located in a modern building designed by Renzo Piano, an Italian architect and engineer. It is distinguished by its shape, location on the surface of the water tunnel and green roof. Exhibitions devoted to the development of science and technology are arranged thematically on five floors. There is an exhibition dedicated to electricity, DNA chains and the human mind. A laboratory is available on one of the floors for visitors, in which simple experiments can be carried out.

NEMO is a child-friendly museum. He received such a distinction in 2014 from the Mental Floss magazine. In 2016, it was recognized as the most friendly museum in the Netherlands.
