Ząbkowice Śląskie is a historic city promoted by the trail and exhibition In the footsteps of Frankenstein. It is a reference to the city's pre-war name, although in fact Ząbkowice had nothing to do with the doctor trying to raise the dead.
The city developed from the Middle Ages as an important trade center at the intersection of the routes from Wrocław to Prague and from Nysa to Świdnica. Defensive walls and the ruins of the prince's castle have been preserved here from the Middle Ages. An interesting monument from this period is the Leaning Tower, which houses a medieval torture chamber.
The original medieval urban layout has been preserved in Ząbkowice. Although most of the houses have a later appearance, their foundations, and often also the walls, date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. In the middle of the square there is a neo-Gothic town hall with a high tower and ornaments in the form of pinnacles and traceries.
An interesting attraction of Ząbkowice Śląskie is the Chamber of Regional Memorabilia, which includes the Exhibition in the footsteps of Doctor Frankenstein. It leads through the basement of the building, offering visitors a large dose of adrenaline.
