Market Square in Wrocław

One of the biggest former market squares covers the area of 3,8 ha and is surrounded by monumental tenement houses. The Late-Gothic Old City Hall, where the oldest Polish restaurant Piwnica Świdnicka and the City Museum is located, can be found in the center of the city.

The monumental pillory, the Aleksander Fredro Monument, and the Zdrój Fountain built in 2000 can be seen on the market. The Christmas Market takes place in Christmas season and many events are organized throughout the entire year. The buildings which stand out most on the market are tenement houses of altarists such as Hansel and Gretel situated in the northwest part of the market, Griffins Tenement House, Blue Sun Tenement House, Golden Sun Tenement House, and Seven Electors Tenement House. The 19th-century building of the City Hall, which serves today as the headquarters of municipal authorities, is also located near the market.

The stylish architecture is completed by the modernistic building from 1930 designed by Heinrich Rump. The rectangular market with dimensions of 213x178 m is connected to 11 streets. The record related to the market is the number of guests (200 thousand) who celebrated New Year's Eve in 2013.
