Mikołajki is one of the most important tourist centers in Masuria, a port on the Tałty and Mikołajskie Lakes and a holiday resort. There is a marina, the marina of Żegluga Masuria, as well as a beach and a promenade.

The city was founded in the 15th century on the isthmus between Lake Mikołajskie and Lake Tałty. At that time, these areas were under the control of the Teutonic Order, which had its court, taverns and a customs house here. The church of St. Nicholas, from which the town takes its name. It has not survived to our times. The church of St. Nicholas is a modern building, and its 40 meter high tower is an excellent vantage point.

The main attraction of Mikołajki is their location between two lakes. This makes it the perfect base for boaters and water sports enthusiasts. There is a port for sailing boats and yachts, canoe, boat and pedal boat rentals, as well as the marina of the Masurian Shipping, which offers lake cruises. There is a promenade on the shore with many bars and shops, as well as the city beach.

In Mikołajki, some Prussian buildings from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries have survived, including the former mill and the neo-Gothic church, which was built as the Evangelical People's House. An interesting fact is the Museum of the Polish Reformation operating in Mikołajki.

The city offers many attractions for tourists in the season. There is a water park here, numerous walking paths. Outdoor events and concerts are also organized.
