Swing bridge in Giżycko, due to its unique construction, is a tourist attraction of the city. In Europe there are only a few similar objects, so it is so popular with tourists willing to watch the opening and closing of the bridge.
According to the initial intentions of the constructors, the bridge weighing 100 tons is handled manually. One operator can manually close or open the bridge within nearly 5 minutes. To commemorate the presence at the swing bridge in Giżycko the crossing operator carries out commemorative stamps.
The bridge built in 1898 by a company from Zielona Góra was supposed to make it easier to reach the city from the Boyen Fortress. The entire bridge span is rotated by 90 °, making it possible to flow water units along the canal. German units withdrew from the area after the bridge was demolished, after the war it was rebuilt. At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, an electric drive bridge was built. However, after a general overhaul in 1993, it was restored to its original state with manual opening of the bridge.
