Boyen Fortress is a brick fort with ground defensive formations built on a plane of a six-pointed star. The construction is located on the so-called Giżycka Island near the Masurian city of Giżycko. It's one of the best preserved Polish monuments of the 19th-century defensive architecture. Thanks to that, the place has an exceptional historical and tourist values.
Visitors get an amazing opportunity to admire the graphics of world and Polish artists: Picasso, Rembrandt, Dürer, Vollard, Canaletto, Beksiński, and Chodowiecki. It's also worth to take a look at stables and carriage house where not only old vehicles can be admired but also the building itself which undergone an excellent renovation. The magazine of ammunition and hunting hall shouldn't be missed during a visit too.Guests can use tourist and biking tracks. An additional asset of this unique place is the fact that its area contains the Fortress Hotel with almost 100 available rooms.After World War I, a hospital operated in the fort and shortly before World War II it served as one of the meeting points of the German army.
